If you’ve been waiting for a PSP emulator for iOS then we’ve some good news on that front.

Henrik Rydgard, developer of Dolphin, the Gamecube and Wii emulator, has successfully ported PPSSPP, the PSP emulator to iOS.

Rydgard has also ported the basic PSP emulator to other smartphone platforms such as Android and BlackBerry 10.

YouTube user with the handle Dethklokpie has posted a video, which shows the PSP emulator running on his iPad 4. You may notice that the frame rate is quite slow. Dethklokpie says that it is because the emulator is using an interpreter instead of the Just-In-Time compiler (JIT). Developers are currently figuring out a way to get JIT to work on iOS or some other workarounds to improve the performance.

The port is in its early stages so it is still not available on the PPSSPP site, though you can compile the source code or use the deb file posted in the PPSSPP forums to install it on your jailbroken iOS device.

It makes PPSSPP, the first and only PSP emulator for iOS. We hope that Rydgard and other developers working on the project continues to work on it and release it on Cydia.

Thanks Alan for the tip!
