iOS 9 Notes app
The Notes app is a convenient place to store quick tidbits of information — a list of items to get at the store on the way home from work, a quick sketch of your garden layout and more. As with most apps, everything is smooth sailing until you accidentally hit the delete button and lose some of that precious data. Thankfully, the Notes app has a recovery feature that’ll let you restore recently deleted content. Read on to find out how you can get your lost Notes data back quickly and with minimal stress.

Just like the Photos app, Apple’s iOS Notes app has a safety feature that will store deleted note for up to 30 days before they are removed permanently. Follow these steps to restore the note in just a few minutes.

  1. Open the Notes app.
  2. Tap on the back arrow button ( “<“) in the upper left corner  to view all the folders in the Notes app.
  3. Tap the “Recently Deleted” folder.notes-delete
  4. Tap on the “Edit” button in the upper right corner.
  5. Tap to select checkbox next to the notes you want to restore.
  6. Tap the “Move To” button in the lower corner.
  7. Choose the folder you want to move the deleted note back to, either the “Notes” folder on iCloud or the “Notes” folder on the device, or a custom folder you may have created.
  8. Use the “<” button to return to the main notes folder and find the undeleted note in the folder you selected above

If you do not see your note in this recently deleted list or accidentally removed the note more than a month ago, the note likely is gone for good, and you will have to resort to a more extreme method of data retrieval. In this situation, your final option would be to restore the device from an older backup that contains the note. Depending on how long ago it was deleted, you may have to find a backup that is a month or two old.
