Few hours back Apple seeded the first beta version of iOS 7 to developers of the iOS Developer program.

As we mentioned earlier, you need to be a developer (i.e. have your device’s UDID registered with a developer account) to be able to install the iOS 7 beta.

However, users on reddit are reporting that they have been able to update their iPhones to iOS 7 beta without having their iPhone’s UDID registered with a developer account.

reddit user 000MIX explains how he managed to install iOS 7 beta on his iPhone 5:

  1. Download the correct .ipsw file for your device
  2. connect your phone to iTunes and (Alt/Option for mac, or Shift for Windows) on the Update button instead the restore button.

So the trick is to use the Update option rather than the Restore option. It is not clear if this works on other iOS devices as well (though iOS 7 beta is not yet available for the iPad).

While we understand that many of you may want to try this trick to check out what iOS 7 looks like, please proceed with caution as it is the first beta so would be buggy, and users are also reporting compatibility issues with some of the apps.

If you do give it a shot, let us know how it goes in the comments.
