Apple today announced the much-rumored AirPods Pro featuring active noise cancellation along with a new in-ear design that’s water and sweat-resistant.
The new lightweight design of the AirPods Pro makes them very comfortable to wear and they even feature a vent system to reduce discomfort and equalize pressure. Apple is also providing three different types of silicone ear tips for a better fit to an individual’s ear.
Apart from IPX4 water- and sweat-resistant design, the new AirPods Pro feature active noise cancellation. They achieve this using a combination of two microphones and software to cancel out background noise.
The noise cancellation feature is complemented by the new Transparency mode that allows one to listen to music while also simultaneously listening to ambient sound. This way the wearer will always be aware of their surroundings while on public transit, on their run, etc.
Apple has also improved the sound quality with Adaptive EQ that tunes the low and mid-frequencies of the music according to one’s ear. A new high dynamic range amplifier also helps improve sound clarity while also improving battery life.
The AirPods Pro features a SiP (System-in-Package) design that’s built around Apple’s H1 chip that has 10 audio cores. Thanks to the H1 chip, the AirPods Pro offers the same battery life as the regular AirPods — up to five hours of listening time. With noise cancellation enabled, this drops to 4.5 hours. The bundled wireless charging case can extend the battery life of the AirPods Pro by over 24 hours or offer 18 hours of talk time.
Apart from Qi wireless charging, the case can be charged using a Lightning cable. The AirPods Pro will be available in the United States for $249 from October 30.
