Apple has released yet another firmware update for AirPods and AirPods Pro. This time around we are not sure what the new firmware brings to the table. It is quite possible that it comes with bug fixes and other improvements.

The AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro now run firmware version 2C54 as opposed to the earlier 2B588. Furthermore, Apple is yet to outline a straight forward way to update AirPods firmware. As of now, AirPods get updated automatically when connected to an iOS device.

One of the ways to force an update is to connect AirPods to a power source and then pair it to an iPhone or an iPad. Typically the update is completed in a short span of time. Here is ho you can check AirPods Firmware version,

  • Ensure that your iOS device is connected to your AirPods.
  • Now remove the AirPods from the charging case. You don’t need to wear them in your ears, but that should be fine as well.
  • Now launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Navigate to General > About.
  • Scroll down and tap AirPods.
  • You should be able to find out the firmware version of your AirPods next to the Firmware Version on this page.

It is worth noting that unlike iOS and iPadOS, Apple doesn’t publish release notes for AirPods firmware. Meanwhile, we hope that Apple will iron out the kinks and offer a button for force updating AirPods/AirPods Pro. If you are still confused, check out our guide on how to update AirPods firmware.
